6 Sep - Dec, 2018 Making healthcare-related information accessible to patients, providers, and pharmacists in a meaningful, updated, and uniform way holds the promise of improved healthcare delivery. As a result, the evolving healthcare industry exhibits the urgent need for interoperability, health information exchange (HIE), centralized registries to encourage clinical analytics, and industry-wide standards to support the data-driven healthcare ecosystem. HIE provides clinical data technology expertise for an efficient and cost-effective provider-patient communication. This communication includes electronic mobilization of clinical information that allows doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel in optimizing the speed, quality, safety, coordination, and cost of patient care. In addition, with the evolving technology landscape, HIE leverages mobile applications, cloud-based IT systems, and collaboration tools to foster connectivity that can support emergency treatment. The medical staff is immediately informed about the patient's allergies, health problems, and medication helping them initiate care without delay. Such emergency treatment is a boon especially in the case of natural disasters, which may destroy medical records on paper, but health-related information records stored virtually via HIE prevail. HIE brings forth earlier diagnosis and treatment of patients with more accurate and complete information about the patient and their health history. The data about treatment received elsewhere is vital information empowering current providers to make the right treatment decisions and avoid harming the patient. Moreover, HIE serves as a source of patient empowerment for patients can take a more active role in their health, assured of the security of the health records as HIE systems comply with HIPAA regulations, apart from state laws to prevent access by unauthorized persons. There are many models and approaches to supporting electronic HIE provided by accountable care organizations (ACOs), electronic health record (EHR) vendors, national exchange networks, and more. Making healthcare data more accessible and interoperable, HIE is the path to informed, accurate, cost-effective, and proactive healthcare.Write us your thoughts.Integrating Healthcare Information Sources for Enhanced HealthcareManaging EditorAlex D'souzaEditorial StaffAaron PaulJoe PhillipJames SmithMark RobertVisualizerCopyright © 2018 ValleyMedia, Inc.
