Avel eCare is on a mission to provide high-quality care to communities regardless of where they are and their onsite clinical resources.
Backed by 30 years of industry experience, it is remodeling clinician-to-clinician telemedicine by operating as a virtual hospital. Positioned at the intersection of technology and care delivery, Avel eCare helps healthcare facilities reimagine patient services and improve operational efficiency.
“Our clinicians can work from anywhere in the world. We have no bounds to how we can provide care,” says Doug Duskin, CEO.
That vision comes to life through its proprietary platform, eSync, which embeds virtual physicians directly into onsite care teams. It fosters real-time collaboration that enhances clinical decision-making, eases staff workload and ensures timely, high-quality patient care. eSync also tracks key performance metrics against benchmarks to reinforce a culture of quality and ensure consistent care delivery.
Powering this model is a multi-disciplinary team, including accredited physicians spanning multiple specialties, nurses, paramedics, specialists, social workers and more. They ensure on-demand, around-the-clock access to care, whether it’s during the first hour of an emergency in an ambulance or behavioral health support in a rural school. In a recent study, Avel eCare’s average response time in the emergency department was just 11 seconds from when a request is made to a board-certified nurse or physician appearing on screen. This always-on expertise translates into faster, better patient outcomes.
Setting Avel eCare apart is its clinical breadth that allows it to go beyond a point solution to deliver comprehensive virtual care. Hospitals, health systems and government agencies get a single partner that can meet multiple clinical needs across departments and geographies.
Driving Better Outcomes in Every Care Environment
Avel eCare’s story began inside a hospital. It was founded to serve a rural health system with 30 facilities, each site having unique care delivery needs for their communities. This foundation gave it a deep, firsthand understanding of care providers’ challenges, including rising costs and chronic disease management, workforce burnout, emergency room wait times and budget constraints.
That frontline experience also shaped its understanding that no two care environments are identical. The needs of a rural emergency room are vastly different from that of a high-volume, urban trauma center.
Taking this reality to heart, the product development team worked closely with clients and the broader market to design and refine care delivery models. This approach ensures hospitals and health systems are equipped with tailored, scalable solutions that fit their environment and their patients.
Over time, Avel eCare developed a broad and evolving portfolio of services for behavioral health, pharmacy, senior and long-term care, school-based health, correctional healthcare and pre-hospital care in ambulances.
Measurable Benefits Across Care Settings
A powerful example of Avel eCare’s impact can be seen in its partnership with a county community hospital.
After going live, the hospital reported a 27 percent reduction in unnecessary patient transfers, a 33 percent reduction in average length of stay for emergency room patients and an estimated $1.2 million in annual savings.
The hospital’s CEO summed it up best, “Working with Avel eCare is like having emergency medicine physicians standing in our hallway, always available to help.”
Implementing the behavioral health care model enabled another hospital to increase throughput in the emergency department, saving approximately $812,000 annually. Disposition times improved by 2.5 hours, significantly outperforming the national average of 3.7 hours per case. This eased ED congestion and reduced staff burden, supporting recruitment, retention and sustainable emergency care operations.
Beyond hospital walls, Avel eCare has made a major impact through its crisis care program, a non-acute, ambulatory behavioral health solution designed to support first responders in the field. Sheriff’s deputies and law enforcement officers are equipped with mobile devices that remotely connect individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis to a mental health specialist.
This intervention helps avoid the criminalization of mental health issues, often the result of first responders lacking clinical training and defaulting to arrest or hospitalization. Avel eCare’s clinicians assess the individual, determine if hospitalization is necessary and coordinate follow-up care with local mental health providers.
This is especially impactful for small, rural sheriff’s departments. Resolving a crisis without transporting someone to a behavioral health facility saves valuable time, fuel and staffing resources. For officers, on-the-spot support by mental health professionals relieves the pressure of making judgment calls.
Multiplying Patient and Provider Outcomes
Avel eCare is charting an ambitious yet focused growth path designed to expand its impact while staying true to its mission. Three interconnected strategies anchor the roadmap.
The first one centers on organically expanding its footprint. This includes deepening relationships with its current nationwide base of over 700 customers and extending its reach to similar health systems and communities with unmet needs.
It is also investing heavily in product development. Recent expansions into behavioral health, crisis care, pharmacy support, and senior care reflect this customer-informed approach. Looking forward, it is prioritizing telestroke and neurological services, acknowledging their critical role in emergency and specialty care.
To complement its organic and innovation-driven growth, Avel eCare is pursuing targeted acquisitions within the telemedicine sector. These opportunities are evaluated based on their ability to open new geographic markets, enhance technology infrastructure or add clinical depth to its current offerings. The goal is not just to grow bigger, but to make its services more capable, connected and comprehensive.
As telemedicine continues to gain traction, Avel eCare sees the growing demand for specialty care as a major opportunity. Currently operating with clinical depth in about 15 specialties, it is actively working to expand that number to 30.
Avel eCare delivers connected, high-quality care, making it the go-to partner for scalable, system-wide virtual care.
