n hospitals without a proper sorting system, Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) bins can make up 20 to 40 percent of the total waste volume. These bins must be monitored and collected on a weekly, if not daily basis, but finding vendors who can handle the job can be difficult.

The lack of knowledge about health risks, inadequate training in proper waste management, lack of waste management and disposal systems, shortage of financial and human resources, and low priority given to the issue, all make it challenging to manage medical waste efficiently. However, with decades of experience, GPT Waste Management is a solutionsfocused company dedicated to improving waste management in the healthcare industry.

GPT operates to deliver the best possible solution to its clients’ and as a result, it has no associations or strategic relationships with any service providers in the United Kingdom. This independence allows it to listen to every element of its clients’ waste management goals, including cost savings, carbon reduction, and environmental or sustainability-related goals. GPT’s integrated CRM system enables it to map the client’s work and make recommendations to fulfill their requirements.

“We have an approved, compliant independent subcontractor database in the order of about 300 suppliers across the UK that assist in the management of waste at our client’s estate in close proximity to the point of origin,” says Guy Cherry, MD at GPT Waste Management.

GPT nominates a key account manager with a background in the specific field to have a broad understanding of what the client is looking to achieve. It then performs data analysis and mapping of the current procedures, transferring the resulting data onto a computer program in conjunction with the integrated CRM at GPT.

It then consults with clients to offer recommendations and learn about both their current and intended future practices.

Additionally, GPT Waste Management has a site-visiting audit team and operates across primary care trusts, NHS estates, independent waste management firms, and pharmaceutical environments. One client for instance used 36 suppliers, with an annual spend of 1.4-1.45 million pounds. GPT now manages the same estate through an independent subcontractor database of approximately 14 suppliers, all accredited and audited to the required standard, reducing the cost to less than 1 million pounds per annum. It provides clients with data that allows it to subscribe to a more dynamic carbon evaluation and sustainability platform within their own group model. This has made GPT more attractive when looking at the mergers and acquisitions marketplace. Its accreditations and awards demonstrate GPT’s value to clients compared to its counterparts.

Many independent waste management firms only offer cheaper bin or container prices, but GPT works with a different ideology. Its aim is to understand clients’ waste and waste management costs over time and provide solutions to reduce it. Even during the pandemic, GPT Waste Management was one of the only independent waste management firms in the UK offering waste management services. This went a long way in strengthening relationship with clients and enhancing people’s outlook towards GPT.

With vast experience and knowledge, GPT aims to offer a waste management service that results in cost savings for companies and supports efforts to divert waste from landfill disposal. Ensuring sustainable waste services to clients remains the key focus of its business.
