hat began in 1978 as a garage-based business at the home of Gary Sharpe, owner of Health Care Logistics® (HCL), now encompasses five well-equipped facilities in central Ohio and reaches customers around the globe. Employment has grown too, with more than 300 employees now dedicated to the company’s mission of providing unmatched customer service.
Sharpe discovered early in his career the need for healthcare products in sizes, quantities, and materials not readily available and was determined to deliver.
And has he ever.
Today, HCL®’s inventory includes more than 9,000 different products, all designed to provide ‘special answers to special problems.’ The majority of these items are maintained locally in more than 320,000 square feet of warehouse space and meet the supply needs of hospitals, pharmacies, chain drug stores, pharmaceuticals, and many other facets of healthcare.
Under the day-to-day direction of Sharpe’s children, Kyle Sharpe, vice president of sales, and Bethany Sharpe Reid, vice president of administration and marketing, HCL continues to thrive.
“There are over 49,000 locations in all 50 states and 30 countries using items from Health Care Logistics, and that number keeps growing,” says Kyle Sharpe. “It really makes us excited to see our products so widely used.”
If a product isn’t on the warehouse shelves, it simply means it isn’t available yet.
HCL also offers complimentary search and development services for non-inventory items customers want but can’t find.
Product scouting is just one example of the unmatched service the company provides to every customer, every day.
“Customer service is at the heart of what we do,” says Reid. “We work closely with our customers to recognize their needs. We seek the right solutions—not just the easy solutions—and create win-win situations for all.”
The company’s manufacturing division encompasses 120,000 square feet of space dedicated to making exactly what its customers need. As its production capabilities are virtually unlimited, HCL can help healthcare professionals solve problems and improve performance, accountability, and reliability in previously unthinkable ways.

“At HCL, we are not afraid to try, fail, adjust, and try again,” she says. “This process is all part of creating better solutions for our customers. Our departments do not operate as silos. It is very common for every project to have representation from at least three different areas.”
‘Your Way, Right Away’ is the philosophy that keeps HCL going strong to meet individual customer requests. It has developed proven systems and manufacturing processes that allow it to quickly and cost-effectively solve problems for its customers, and its potential is limitless.
Well equipped, well staffed, and well represented across the country and beyond, HCL—like Gary Sharpe in 1978—is determined to deliver.
