The ultimate goal of healthcare systems is to create patient experiences that matter. The chief enabler of that is the clinical administration machinery of healthcare facilities, physicians, and medical billers. However, for long, the machinery has clung to cumbersome processes to track health plans, patient eligibility, doctors’ appointments, insurance payouts, claims resolutions, and so on. Consequently, healthcare stakeholders enmeshed in legacy healthcare information systems struggle to efficiently handle clinical administration and claims settlements, thereby hampering patient experiences.

Against this backdrop, advanced healthcare information systems are the need of the hour, especially with interoperability capabilities that help integrate healthcare IT systems with the existing systems of medical clinics and payers to render cost efficiency. But there’s a catch. Even as the market is replete with numerous state-of-the-art healthcare information systems, most of them are expensive and beyond the reach of small and mid-sized medical clinics and payers’ offices.

This is where Inmediata Health Group succeeds in breaking the recurring patterns that existed—becoming the epicenter of the paradigm shift that will follow. By providing the room for the convergence of technology innovation and healthcare interoperability – not to mention keeping the costs low – Inmediata helps drive real world efficiency. “The people that we’re trying to benefit the most is the patient, through serving healthcare providers and payers,” says Severiano Lopez-Marrero, founder and CEO of Inmediata.

Operating predominantly in Puerto Rican markets, the San Juan, Inmediata offers tried-and-tested solutions for optimizing and increasing visibility into clinical administrative operations. Intending to move away from a client-server partnership, Inmediata goes the cloud route to confer operational efficiency and remote access to healthcare providers and medical billers. Through the services they offer as third-party administrator (TPA), Inmediata currently dominates the medical and dental claims processing market in Puerto Rico, capturing more than 80 percent of the dental claims processing market. Apart from this, Inmediata has also partnered with third-party security providers to ensure customers are protected from ransomware or unauthorized access to their cloud-based system.

Embodying the evocative slogan “Services You Trust for Health,” Inmediata acts as the go-to healthcare information system partner for patients, physicians, medical billers, and Health Plans. A personalized touch and complete transparency in interactions with clients are part of the local flavour Inmediata brings to their Puerto Rican clientele, enabling them to develop custom-fit solutions and build closer relationships with clients. All these contribute to Inmediata’s solid brand recognition as a trusted name in healthcare IT services, further enhanced by its all-encompassing medical practice management system.

One-Stop Web-based Medical Billing Solution

Inmediata’s state-of-the-art practice management solution SecureClaim brings innovation, cost efficiencies, and ease of operability to medical billing and claims handling processes. Seamlessly integrating with clearinghouse and electronic medical records (EMR), the cloud-based medical billing software securely gathers data and manages billing, reporting, appointment scheduling, and payment reconciliations location-independently.

The people that we’re trying to benefit the most is the patient, through serving healthcare providers and payers

From integrating patient referrals to managing lab orders and electronic prescriptions, SecureClaim does it all. With a plethora of innovative features, SecureClaim helps Inmediata be the one-stop shop for addressing the entirety of clients’ medical reimbursements and healthcare administrative needs.

SecureClaim starts tracking patients the moment they walk into the doctors’ office. Accessing information from the electronic clearinghouse, SecureClaim checks patients’ eligibility at all points in the revenue cycle process to ensure they have the right medical insurance coverage and receive the corresponding medical service. Once the patient-doctor meeting concludes, SecureClaim registers the interaction details and fetches related information from the EMRs. The information is converted into a medical claim processed by the connected payment system and eventually reimbursed.

In addition to connecting physicians and patients and moving medical bills through the revenue cycle, SecureClaim ensures fast, automated record updating and electronic payment settlements. This relieves healthcare providers, billers, and other clinical staff from spending copious amounts of time collecting patient data, dealing with paperwork, and worrying about getting paid correctly. In a nutshell, SecureClaim frees up doctors and other healthcare providers from administrative tasks, making the medical billers’ jobs easier.

Inmediata is well-versed with the challenges faced by Puerto Rican medical billers in a market where a single biller can have 25-30 employees managing the billing and collection for 50-70 doctors. Keeping in mind the evolving requirements of biller clients who have been with Inmediata since its inception and have grown in size and operations, Inmediata has designed an inventory control module within its practice management solution. Doing away with the time-consuming manual mode, the module can assign medical bills and claims resolution tasks to medical billers’ employees in an automated and optimized manner in tandem with the growing number of physicians on their lists.

As an example of efficient practice management, Inmediata developed a tool for medical biller to automate their claims distribution process. The tool fetched the inventory item like medical reimbursement bills and claims directly from the electronic clearinghouse and EMRs into a software component controlling inventory. The component allotted inventory not only on a per-account basis but also per staff capabilities. It assigned claims from a specific medical domain to an employee with expertise in that particular domain and allocated a set number of claims according to the employees’ status as full or part-time. “We have been able to automate inventory management and enable efficiencies to our medical billers, and we continue to improve on that,” extols Lopez- Marrero.

The Journey from Genesis

Before founding Inmediata, Lopez-Marrero was involved with a business handling paper claims management in Puerto Rico. Coming from a background in electrical engineering with a working knowledge of computer science, he came up with the idea of putting together the first Clearinghouse Enterprise in the Puerto Rico healthcare market with the support of the biggest Health Plans Companies in the Island for that time.

Driven to serve customers’ evolving requirements, he noticed a dire need for healthcare and medical billing management in Puerto Rico. Building on what was essentially an e-commerce platform, Lopez-Marrero and his team created a new platform by adopting the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements in early 2000. Inmediata was thus born. Entering the markets in 2003, the CMS, ONC, and HIPAA-compliant medical billing and claims management solution eventually added the innovative practice management solution that came with customized business intelligence reporting to augment the medical claims submission process.

Dedicated to community service, Inmediata has actively engaged with Puerto Rico’s healthcare entities, including the Puerto Rico Hospital Association. At the forefront of web-based healthcare innovation, Inmediata’s technology solutions enable them to be ever-present by their clients’ side. For instance, during Hurricane Maria in 2017 that caused widespread damage to Puerto Rico’s coastline, Inmediata continued to offer its practice management services online as they had the required cloud infrastructure to support patients, healthcare providers, and medical billers amidst the mayhem.

In For the Long Haul

In the future, Inmediata will continue to stay razor-focused on handling integrated solutions for practice management, hospital information systems, EMRs and business intelligence data analytics. Catering to 13,000 healthcare providers in Puerto Rico, where half of the clinicians lack EMR systems and Medicaid reimbursements are 40 percent lower than on the US mainland, Inmediata intends to reach out to more providers with their practice management system. In addition to practice management solutions, Inmediata’s long-term strategy includes offering tools for data analytics with their Secured Insight products.

As a long-term goal, Inmediata will be leveraging the dual advantage of being based out of a Spanish-speaking American territory that handles the latest federal healthcare requirements coupled with a 20-year experience in serving Latin American markets. To that end, in the next 5-10 years, Inmediata intends to expand to Spanish-speaking regions across the United States and Central and South Americas. Already having an office in Charlotte, US, Inmediata will be extending its presence to the US states of Florida, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. To accomplish the widespread expansion, Inmediata is keen to partner with entities to help them service their existing and expanding markets.

Gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its founding, Inmediata will continue to stay true to its commitment to being a long-term player in the medical practice management space. With an unwavering focus on staying ahead of the curve, Inmediata will be delivering high standardization in medical practice management systems and cost efficiencies to healthcare markets. In its revamped 2.0 version, Inmediata is ready to embark on a long journey in the world of healthcare IT.
