A budget-neutral program that rewards high-performing medical practices, the merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS) ignited a movement toward precise data consolidation and timely administrative documentation. However, the annually changing rules coupled with the ever-evolving performance criteria are making it difficult for physicians to take complete control of their MIPS score, causing them to lose significant revenue generation opportunities.

This is where KRK Value Based Consulting steps in to help practices strengthen their MIPS score through comprehensive consulting, compliance training, and security risk analysis services proven to deliver impactful outcomes. Unlike most consulting firms that solely focus on limited MIPS-related facets, KRK Consulting takes an end-to-end and personal approach to holistically boost their MIPS and related compliance processes. Leveraging the clinical experience of its HIPAA-certified team, KRK Consulting acts as an extension of a practice’s administrative staff and precisely assesses their operations to develop tailored strategies that boost operational and administrative competencies without disrupting day-to-day workflows.

“We get to know our clients, understand their workflows and pain points, and develop a customized approach that fills any gaps, driving the efficient utilization of existing resources,” says Roslynn Lowery, partner, KRK Consulting.

Usually, physicians have to spend valuable time reading through the comprehensive MIPS rules list (spanning over 3200 pages) to learn of the mandates that apply to them. Combine this with the exasperated shortage of administrative personnel and front office staff, and it becomes nearly impossible for practices to pinpoint areas of improvement. Through its MIPS consulting, KRK Consulting strengthens all four categories (quality, promoting interoperability, improvements activities, and cost), conducts EHR/EMR training, delivers reliable audit support, and performs security risk assessments.

“We go through the 3000-page MIPS rules list and show clients the bigger picture of potential obstacles before executing the operational changes that can earn them a positive adjustment in their Medicare reimbursement,” states Kimberly Bailey, partner, KRK Consulting.

This competency enables KRK Consulting’s clients to bypass the conventionally cumbersome approach that most practices adopt when updating their EHR specifications according to the latest MIPS requirements. In most cases, practices do not have an accurate insight into their performance and can only make relevant changes to their EHR workflows by the second quarter of a year. KRK Consulting flips this script by tracking clients’ performance and manually calculating their scores monthly, allowing them to cut through regulatory red tape, proactively boost MIPS scores, and build a data-driven roadmap that clearly highlights their improvements over a year.

A success story that exemplifies KRK Consulting’s unmatched capabilities is an ongoing collaboration with a large multi-specialty group that approached the firm to strengthen their MIPS scores. After being released from their accountable care organization (ACO), this client, comprising 70 providers across 20 offices in four regions and three specialties, now falls under MIPS’ mandates. This made it critical for them to standardize their fragmented technology stacks and workflows, and ensure their alignment with the latest MIPS guidelines.

For this project, KRK Consulting assisted the client is selecting the best third-party registry platform that could aggregate their data sets from four EMR systems, assessed the different quality measures across them, and selected six metrics that could align with the entire physician group. It also trained the providers, administrative staff, and IT personnel to enable the seamless generation of standardized reports for the timely, unified, and transparent monitoring of critical aspects. Currently, the physician group is poised to earn an excellent MIPS score for 2022.

A unique player in the MIPS consulting arena, KRK Consulting continues to combine its impactful consultations and training services with a customer-centric engagement approach to support medical practices of all sizes in taking better control of their MIPS scores.
