Leading independent healthcare waste management company Anenta has announced the appointment of Matthew Boycott, former Senior programme lead, Primary Care NHS England, as Director of Strategy and Business Development.

Brought on board to boost Anenta’s senior management team, Matthew will focus on identifying new areas where Anenta’s ability to understand complex marketplaces through the intelligent use of data – and its skill in the design of user-focused services – will be used to save clients significant amounts of time and money in the public and private sector.

Having successfully cut healthcare waste costs for primary care clients by over £13m, and saved the equivalent of £35m through the introduction of time saving protocol for staff, Anenta is looking to target other sectors where complex processes and compliance requirements create challenges that are ripe for transformation.

Under Matthew’s direction, Anenta aims to use its analytical approach to build a collective understanding of problems facing the public and private sector, where it can act as a disruptor, challenging perceived practice to deliver intervention with market-changing impact.

Where efficiencies or areas for improvement are identified, Anenta will use its proprietary Vector technology to analyse data points at scale so that more agile and customer-centric solutions can be developed using its pathway design approach.

Commenting on his appointment Matthew Boycott said: “Having worked for the NHS as Portfolio Lead for a variety of complex areas including Clinical Waste in primary care, I’ve experienced Anenta’s ability to deliver scalable solutions whist navigating complex markets and regulatory landscapes first-hand.

“Their work in unifying NHS organisations around a consistent approach to waste management in primary care has helped realise significant improvements in the performance of these services. It has also enabled greater regulatory compliance and improved waste management practices.

“Combined with the delivery of enhanced access to data, Anenta has built a better understanding of customer experiences, allowing it to be more responsive to the changing needs of the NHS. This has included playing a pivotal part in promoting change to reduce the environmental impact of waste, which has driven significant savings, demonstrating better value for money. It is this ability which we aim to take to different sectors of the NHS, the public sector, and private sector.

Matthew added: “As an organisation, Anenta has set the bar for efficiency and collaboration in the healthcare waste management space working with NHS ICBs, GP practices, pharmacies, and the care home sector. This approach can be taken and replicated across a host of other areas; whether that’s supporting existing clients with other complex problems and services, or venturing into new sectors where prospective clients are exhausted by unwieldly processes and are stuck in marketplaces that are failing to meet their needs.”

“Here, Anenta’s novel approach to managing processes through its advanced platform will allow us to break new ground in far-reaching ways, addressing sectors that will benefit from significant change and re-design. This will cover everything from translation services in the NHS to property services for leaseholders, which are in urgent need of intervention.

“Here we aim to do things in new and different ways, overhauling current approaches to bring benefit to clients through our managing agent services. From enabling client collaboration to broker better prices, through to complete service re-design to address markets that are not fit for purpose, we believe our experience and expertise has the ability make a meaningful and positive difference.”

Graham Flynn, Managing Director of Anenta, commented: “Having been responsible for orchestrating complex programmes across multiple stakeholders in the NHS, Matthew understands the many challenges facing the sector and the opportunities that exist for transformation. He has tremendous insight from working across multiple sectors within the NHS and has an impressive exploratory approach to discovering, understanding, and addressing problems experienced by many. This is where we believe we can make the most immediate impact.

“Our goal is to leverage our technology and our ability to create collaborative solutions to help clients improve efficiency and cut costs through constant improvements. Here we will prioritise problem-solving over bureaucracy, making savings by ensuring that contracts with third parties are properly managed and policed.”

Anenta currently acts on behalf of over 20,000 customer sites in England. Combined with its rigorous, yet collaborative approach to improving operational efficiency with suppliers, Anenta ensures the delivery of fair billing practices by analysing thousands of invoices to identify and address overcharging, delivering significant and meaningful savings to clients.

Anenta recently won Healthcare Waste Management Company of the Year title at the prestigious Healthcare Business Review Europe Awards 2025.
