FREMONT, CA: Canadians are proud of their country's publicly funded universal health care system. On the other hand, healthcare workers across the country are under enormous pressure to provide the care that patients deserve. To provide better health care to Canadians, immediate and collaborative action is required.
The federal government announced a 198.6 billion-dollar investment over ten years, including 46.2 billion in new funding for provinces and territories to improve Canadians' access to medical care. A one-time, unconditional billion-dollar Canada Health Transfer top-up is included in such funding to address immediate healthcare system pressures. The governments of Canada and British Columbia announced an agreement in principle today for a shared plan that will invest billion in federal funding in British Columbia over ten years, including a billion for a new bilateral agreement focusing on shared health care priorities and a million for an immediate, one-time top-up to address urgent needs, particularly in pre-hospital hospitals and emergency rooms, as well as long surgical wait times.
