Challenges in Occupational Therapy
Fremont, CA: Occupational therapists (OTs) assist individuals of all ages with physical, cognitive, emotional, or social difficulties in regaining and preserving their capacity to engage in daily activities. They provide evaluation, therapy, and instruction to people and groups in a variety of settings, including clinics, schools, hospitals, and private offices. OTs can also operate as independent consultants. Despite all of its advantages, occupational therapists deal with a few difficulties on a daily basis in their line of work. Here are four such challenges faced by occupational therapists:
Physically Demanding Job
An occupational therapist's workday typically entails a lot of lifting, bending, stretching, and walking while assisting patients and their surroundings. When it comes to helping patients who use wheelchairs or explaining how specific assistive technology works, occupational therapists are always on the move. Maintaining this exercise for extended periods can be taxing, particularly for OTs who have physical limitations.
Long Working Hours
Occupational therapists often engage in long hours, mainly when working for themselves or at a medical facility. Making time for personal activities outside of work is challenging due to the demanding schedule. Rehabilitation specialists who deal with the general population directly include occupational therapists. A patient's occupational therapist remains actively involved in their treatment even after they leave a medical institution.
