Health systems rely on pharmacists to support patient outcomes as clinicians, data scientists, and innovators.
FREMONT, CA: Over the past few years, pharmacy roles and responsibilities have expanded at a rapid pace as a way to support patient outcomes and enhance the continuum of care. Despite the COVID-19 outbreak and other public health concerns put undue strain on health systems nationwide, pharmacists in health system pharmacies have risen to the challenge. Pharmacists are dedicated to supporting their patients and communities through their expertise and dedication. Pharmacists have taken on the challenges facing healthcare systems, providing more direct patient care. The role of pharmacists as first-line providers of care and consultation has expanded over the last decade.
In the health system, pharmacy is one of the integral parts; however, its role does not always have the same visibility as doctors and nurses. It is required to provide pharmacists with the tools to serve more patients when and where they are needed. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have worked long hours in a short-staffed environment during the pandemic. A pharmacy's expanded role is likely to come with increased reimbursement from payers, which is often the case. Public and private collaboration was driven by the pandemic, as pharmacists and other front-line healthcare workers leveraged their expertise.
