In a patient-centric healthcare culture, the patient always comes first. Ensuring their safety and comfort in the treatment setting is paramount. This begins with eliminating pests and facilitating a hygienic space for patients where they can recover without the fear of infection and irritation.

This is where Terminix comes in. Instead of leveraging a one-size-fits-all solution, it brings customized solutions to each location based on the type of pests, environmental issues, and facility-based differences. Terminix considers the sheer volume of people coming into a healthcare facility, some for short stays and others for extended periods. It ensures the supply, medicine, and surgical rooms are pest-free.

Terminix has joined forces with Rentokil to create Rentokil Terminix, the largest pest control company in the world, operating in over 90 countries. The Rentokil and Terminix family of brands is a powerful global and local network of experts offering a full range of innovative solutions for all your pest control needs. Beyond offering pest-related expertise, Terminix solves the understaffing problem prominent in many healthcare facilities after the pandemic by acting as a partner offering the required consultancy and talent.

“Our technicians become another set of eyes for our partners’ departments,” says Michael Thome, technical services manager at Terminix.

An extra set of eyes see more than one may assume. Along with standard pest control services ranging from bed bugs to rodent infestations, Terminix focuses on solving the underlying issues behind the problem. The odor control and vegetation management are an added value for partners, as a lack of control in either area can create breeding grounds for pests.

This ability to see beyond the surface problem to confront the root source served a Chicago-based facility particularly well. This facility, established in a converted strip mall, had a problem with what they believed to be a fruit fly infestation in one of their doctor’s offices. After trying to work with another provider, which insisted that fruit flies were the issue, the facility turned to Terminix to find a resolution.

The technician quickly identified that the facility was dealing with another type of small fly that, though similar in statute to a fruit fly, had a different breeding site. A thorough examination of the office found a baseboard concealing a plumbing issue at the heart of the problem. The Terminix technician identified a disused pipe that hadn’t been adequately capped, providing the perfect breeding ground for the flies. After repairing and capping the pipe, Terminix eliminated the pests while destroying the breeding ground the flies used.

Extensive expertise, which comes from having the best technical team in the world, allows Terminix to identify issues other suppliers miss. Although Terminix uses many of the same products other organizations use, it is differentiated by the ability of its technicians, who have a great depth of knowledge on the pests they’re dealing with and how to treat them.

Through this expertise, Terminix demonstrates that there’s no ‘silver bullet’ solution to a facility’s pest problems. By working with technicians that combine experience, technical knowledge, and a desire to work as partners rather than providers, Terminix delivers on its promise to protect people and enhance lives through pest control in the healthcare sector.
