In early 2000’s, a family was trying to find a suitable retirement facility for their grandparents. They went to many senior care facilities across Southern Maryland but could not find one where their aging loved ones would love to spend their retirement. They wanted their grandparents to live in a vibrant community that enriched their social life while also meeting their medical needs, so they built one—The Charleston Senior Community.

The Charleston’s 176-roomed facility boasts spacious rooms with access to housekeeping, laundry, and linen services. The Charleston has partnered with Fox, a therapy specialist, to provide residents with onsite physical, occupational, and speech therapies in its well-equipped facilities.

The community’s specially trained team provides assistance through a customized memory care program for residents experiencing signs of Alzheimer’s or dementia. The resident had run out of inpatient benefits but had not advanced enough to be safely left alone at home. The team of caregivers and Fox’s physiotherapists assessed the situation and brought the resident into The Charleston, where they provided the patient with firsthand care. Within months, the resident recovered and was independent enough to return home safely.
