Healthcare organizations are high-risk and complex environments with multiple dimensions of mutual interdependence in professional, technological, and organizational processes. On any given day, healthcare providers across the country encounter various risks that can impact their organization’s performance and potentially impair patient health. These growing and ever-present hazards illustrate the need for comprehensive risk management in healthcare organizations because even a low-risk event could seriously affect patients, personnel, costs, and reputation.

webFCE was founded by Carl Contino and Steve Stanko, who sought to provide clinicians with a quick, comprehensive way to perform functional testing while retaining the ability to produce extensive, in-depth, footnoted, and legally defensible reports. Since the demand for Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) is growing, webFCE helps clinicians increase their profitability and staff productivity by expanding their portfolio.

“From a risk assessment standpoint, one of the important things we do is look at the research literature and the academic journals that contribute to risks. It determines what we can do to improve our software and streamline the process for clinicians and risk managers,” says Stanko, CEO, and co-founder of webFCE.

webFCE has developed HIPAA-compliant software consisting of Functional Capacity Evaluations, Fall Risk Assessments, Health Risk assessments, Senior Fitness and Health Assessments, Functional Fitness Testing, Physical Abilities Testing (Pre and Post Employment Screens), and Physical Performance Testing along with Employer, Corporate, and Patient Portals.

webFCE’s Fall Risk Assessment (FRA) was based on evaluating more than 2300 separate studies. The study examined the relationship between performance on physical tests, self-report questionnaires, and medical history and how these factors correlate to someone’s fall risk.

The webFCE FRA comprises 12 essential evaluative tools that calculate an individual’s risk and probability of falling. Contino further states the FRA study includes the top five performance tests; a time test and two questionnaires. Clinicians can complete tests within 15 minutes with webFCE’s risk assessment tools.

In webFCE’s Fall Risk Assessment, it does the math. It gives clients a precise estimate of an individual’s increased risk of falling and a specific prevention plan. The report is illustrated in relevant ways for the patient, doctor, and other physicians who might be looking at the data. Through analytics, webFCE assists people concerned about the risk of falling off in analyzing the fall risk of their residents due to their interventions and location. They can look at their progress over time to see which intervention is more effective.

For instance, one of webFCE’s clients sought quantitative tools to mitigate risk post-operations. The client conducted over 30,000 orthopedic surgeries annually, and their risk mitigation teams were keen on seeing a more detailed picture rather than just classifying patients based on a few risk levels.

The key to any health-related assessment is tracking progress over time. Compared to its competitors, webFCE provides clients with a quantitatively accurate report of a patient’s prospective risk over 12 months. In addition, Health Risk Assessment (HRA) saves organizations money by keeping their employees healthy, and the employer benefits from improved productivity and employee morale, resulting in an increased bottom line. webFCE’s HRA software allows for easy tracking of an individual’s health by providing an overall health score.

Effective risk management is more than being aware of these threats; it entails developing and implementing policies through protocols to address them. This requires a cooperative effort from all stakeholders in the healthcare system to ensure risks are acknowledged and accounted for. Armed with these competencies, webFCE has assisted numerous clients since its inception and is at the vanguard of improved patient satisfaction. Contino, an experienced healthcare practitioner with a background in the rehabilitation industry, and Stanko, a healthcare analytics software professional, have leveraged their technical expertise and built a low-cost, highly comprehensive solution to administer functional capacity evaluations. Over the years, its peer-reviewed FCE software has assisted numerous customers with software products and clinical assessments that consider many factors, combined with the proper interventions, to effectively mitigate patient risks.
