Promptness is a crucial aspect of medical transportation services, and when complemented by compassion, creates a transformative experience for patients. These values are at the core of York Simcoe Transfer Service as it delivers prompt and compassionate care to patients for various occasions, including medical appointments, shopping trips, and family events.

Patients facing medical emergencies often encounter tedious waiting times at hospitals due to delayed pick-ups by transportation services. In some cases, they may even be forced to forfeit important medical appointments.

York Simcoe Transfer Service stands apart by prioritizing the swift and dignified provision of medical care over carrying out more transportation runs. It creates a comforting and encouraging atmosphere for patients, akin to traveling with a dependable family member.

“We prioritize empathy, communication, expertise, and readiness to aid patients while making families feel at ease,” says Chris Nesbitt, president of York Simcoe Transfer Service

It specializes in transporting patients who are ambulatory or have different mobility limitations, like those who are wheelchair-bound, need a stretcher, or are unresponsive and receiving end-of-life care.

Joanne Liaridis, VP of operations and patient care at York Simcoe Transfer Service, holds 18 years of experience as a paramedic, and the team possesses a wealth of knowledge on expertly training the staff about safe patient handling. The staff feels confident in its ability to handle any situation, even those involving bariatric patients weighing over 250 pounds.

Its team is also equipped with the necessary equipment and expertise to ensure patient safety and well-being.

When the team arrives to transport patients from the hospital, they start by introducing themselves and asking patients if they have any pain or discomfort. Before making physical contact, they transparently communicate with the patient and explain what they need to do and how it will be done. They also inspect for IVs, catheter bags, and other accessories that may cause discomfort.

York Simcoe Transfer Service’s team works as an extension of the hospital’s staff and help a patient feel cared for, relaxed, and safe throughout the journey.

A commitment to compassionate care has driven York Simcoe Transfer Service’s rapid expansion from a single hospital to a network of six locations across the Greater Toronto Area. It currently manages an impressive 90 percent of all hospice runs in the York Region.

In one instance, a patient transported by its team to a hospice stated his desire for medical assistance in dying at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Satisfied with the level of service they experienced earlier, his family requested the York Simcoe Transfer Service team to transport him back home from the hospice on a Sunday.

Despite having the day off, two team members volunteered to drive him back. They first stopped near Lake Simcoe, where his family and friends were waiting to sing for him. Later, the team helped him up the stairs at home and ensured he was comfortable before leaving. Its team went beyond their duties to make sure things were done right for the family.

If a client requests a trip when York Simcoe Transfer Service’s bookings are filled, it provides them with a list of trusted companies that share their values and beliefs and can temporarily meet their transportation needs.

Dedicated to delivering compassionate and dependable services, York Simcoe Transfer Service’s goal is to transform the industry by setting new benchmarks for caregivers and healthcare transportation services that enhance the quality of care.
